The Menu (2022)

   A well-dressed young couple, Tyler (Nicholas Hoult) and Margo (Anya Taylor-Joy) wait at the pier for a boat to take them to an island for dinner at the Hawthorne, a restaurant owned by well-known chef Julian Slowik, in the opening scene of The Menu (Ralph Fiennes). 
  For all fans of murder mysteries, alarm bells would be screaming when Tyler says that there are only 12 visitors (at the cost of $1,250 for each guest). An island, a sumptuous dinner, and an odd guest list are sure signs of a brutal murder, as any casual reader of whodunits knows.

   While on his honeymoon, screenwriter Will Tracy had supper at the Cornelius Sjmat restaurant in Norway when he had the idea for The Menu. It doesn't tell much about the marriage, but the restaurant is on a private island, so Tracy realized they couldn't leave until the meal was through. Chef Dominique Crenn of Atelier Crenn in San Francisco created and prepared all of the food featured in the movie.

   The escalating tension in The Menu, where violence is only a whisker away in a fine-dining setting, is fascinating. The power struggle between Margot and Slowik, which Taylor-Joy and Fiennes vividly portray, is also enthralling.
The Menu is the ideal snack if you're looking for a stinging satire on the food industry.
