Neeson looks to have left that company, allowing Gerard Butler free to enter via the open door. Butler exhibits a similar level of on-screen charisma to Neeson (but without the Oscar nomination) and demonstrates his ability to portray the heroic everyman role. He's stuck with a dull title (who could think of anything more catchy than Plane?) and a duller storyline, but that's standard fare for action movies with an '80s vibe. The largest error made by Lionsgate, the movie's distributor, was to release it in theaters as opposed to negotiating a contract with a major streaming service.
